Cow dung as antiseptic – India (West Bengal)

 

Getting rid of insects such as scorpions and centipedes 

Naba, has placed a bucket of liquefied cow dung in the yard for Phulan. She will use the paste, made form cow’s urine and dung is called Panchagavyam .This is used to clean the courtyard every morning. She begins by smearing a round in front of the yard’s shrine and one at every door it is believe to protect those entering and to underline that the house has been cleaned. The sacred cow dung will serve as an anti septic, keep the yard from dust and from different invisible bacteria and insects such as scorpions and centipedes etc. When that is finished, she will do the kitchen floor and her in-laws’ veranda.
